How does BioVinca® Vinpocetine work?
Vinpocetine is a chemical substance synthesizedfromvincamine, anatural constituent found in the leaves of the Vinca minor (lesserperiwinkle) plant. Popular in Europe and Japan as a memory-enhancingsupplement for the past several decades, vinpocetine has recentlybecome available as a dietary supplement in the U.S.

Vinpocetine is believed to promote healthy cognitive function by actingas a cerebral vasodilator, meaning it enhances blood flow to the brain.Vinpocetine works by inhibiting an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type1 (PDE1), while at the same time reducing intracellular calcium levels.This allows brain blood vessels to relax and increases the amount ofblood flowing through them. Vinpocetine also reduces the viscosity or"stickiness" of red blood cells and platelets, allowing blood to flowmore freely through narrowed vessels.
